I loved meeting beautiful little Poiema and her momma for a photoshoot to celebrate her upcoming 1st birthday. Poiema looked absolutely adorable in her strawberry dress and red chucks, which made for some extra cute portraits. I definitely need to do more strawberry themed birthday photoshoots in the future – SO CUTE!

Graham’s 1st Birthday Photoshoot! | Southern California Cake Smash Photographer

I was so excited to see cutie Graham and his family again after getting to photograph Graham as a newborn last year. I loved that his momma specifically requested black and white portraits. Black and white portraits have a timeless quality, and, as the great Canadian photographer Ted Grant said, “When you photograph people in black and white, you photograph their souls.” 1

Graham has the most stunning eyes and the cutest cheeks! I loved capturing his expressions and photographing his cake smash experience, and I was so happy they drove from the Temecula area to see me for his photoshoot.

Here are some tips to help you prepare for your baby’s cake smash photoshoot:

Choose a theme: You can choose a theme that reflects your baby’s personality or interests. Some popular themes include floral, rustic, and Wild One (Where the Wild Things Are).
Pick a cake: The cake is the centerpiece of the photoshoot, so choose a cake that looks beautiful and tastes delicious. You can either make the cake yourself or order one from a bakery.
Dress up your baby: Dress your baby in a cute outfit that matches the theme of the photoshoot. You can also add some accessories like a hat or a bowtie. I’ve got tons of crowns, headbands, and outfits for baby girls too.
Be prepared for a mess: Cake smash photoshoots can get messy, but I’ll take care of the mess! You’ll only need to clean up your baby, and your baby will have the option to end the session in my little baby tub to wash off the frosting and play.

Kamila is a natural in front of the camera, and I feel so lucky to have captured her at 2 months and 6 months old. Her eyes are so stunning and she is just as gorgeous as can be! At the time I’m finally getting around to writing about her 6 month photoshoot, she has actually turned 7 months old, but even though I’m late in writing this it’s always worth it to document adorable photos.

Kiara was such a perfect little baby model! Don’t let her big brown eyes and long hair fool you, she was still so teeny. 8 month olds are still in the perfect window for a “sitter session”, which typically falls between 6-9 months old when babies are able to sit on their own and extra expressive.

Sitter sessions are always some of my favorite photos to capture! What is a sitter session? It’s just as it sounds — a photoshoot to celebrate the milestone of babies learning to sit on their own!
