French Valley Newborn Photographer Serving Firefighter Families in Southern California
This stunning baby girl's parents brought her in for a Mini Newborn Session, which is a shorter version of my Deluxe Newborn session. It’s designed for families who still want beautiful newborn portraits but in a condensed timeframe (up to one hour) with a focus on simplicity and baby-led posing. This little one made it a total breeze!
From the moment her session began, she settled right in and slept peacefully through the entire experience. Not a single fuss—just a sleepy and relaxed baby who seemed completely content being gently posed. Sessions like this don’t happen every time, but when they do, they feel almost effortless.
Honoring Firefighters
I'm always grateful for the chance to honor those who serve, and I just realized as I post this today it is an especially meaningful day to recognize the dedication and sacrifice of firefighters. One of the most meaningful parts of this gallery was a portrait of the adorable baby girl in her daddy’s firefighter helmet, held close in his hands. I’ve had the opportunity to incorporate firefighter gear for other families before, and it’s been really special to see how many of them are connected. I truly appreciate the referrals and the sense of community that comes with it.
Newborn Safety is Top Priority
This cutie looked so tiny in the helmet—an instant reminder of how small she is right now, and how big her story will grow to be. These kinds of details are what turn newborn portraits into family heirlooms. Please note: When looking for a newborn photographer, it’s extremely important to choose someone who prioritizes your baby’s safety above all else. While it may appear as though the baby and the helmet were being held in the air in this photo, she was actually safely positioned inside her dad’s helmet while it rested securely on his lap. She was carefully and gently posed to ensure she was comfortable, supported, and completely safe at all times.
Nevus Simplex: The Sweetest Butterfly Birthmark
One of my favorite details from her session was the adorable butterfly-shaped birthmark on her forehead. The medical term is called a nevus simplex, an extremely common and harmless birthmark that appears in approximately 30% to 50% of newborns. It's caused by small, dilated capillaries close to the skin's surface and often appears as a flat pink or red patch, usually on the forehead, eyelids, or back of the neck. They come in many shapes--I've often seen heart-shaped ones--and common nicknames for these birthmarks include "stork bites," "angel kisses," or salmon patches. They usually fade within the first year as the baby grows, so the unique & delicately symmetrical butterfly shape of this cute baby girl's stork bite was such a beautiful detail to capture during her newborn session.
