Baby's First Photoshoot: Newborn Photos
If you’re looking for a baby photographer to capture your baby's development throughout their first year, take a look at this sweet baby girl’s progression from newborn to 9 months. Her newborn session focused on keeping things simple and natural. I used neutral and feminine tones to keep the attention on her tiny features. She had a good mix of sleepy and awake shots to show off her adorable little face.
4 Month Photos
Originally, her mama was aiming for a 3-month photoshoot, but ended up booking closer to the 4 month mark. By that time, she had the sweetest chubby cheeks and chunky little rolls, the happiest smile, and was loving tummy time which allowed me to snap some adorable portraits.
At 4 months old, babies go through some exciting milestone developments as they become more alert, social, and interactive with the world around them. This stage is often filled with showing lots of personality and adorable new skills that make it a great age for milestone photography.
Most 4-month-olds can hold their head up well and may push up on their arms during tummy time. Their vision has drastically improved since birth, so they love watching faces, lights, and toys. At this point, they're smiling and laughing with intention, especially during interaction with the people they're familiar with.
Physically, hand discovery becomes a big focus—babies often spend time studying their hands, bringing them together, or even trying to reach and grasp nearby objects.
Overall, the 4-month stage is all about awareness, interaction, and emerging personality—making it a beautiful time to capture expressive milestone portraits.
Six Month Photos | Halfway to One
At 6 months, her mama brought half of a cake for some sweet "halfway to one" shots for her half birthday. The portraits from this session were some of my favorites--she has the cutest cheeks and big blue eyes!
Six month photos are such a fun milestone because babies are usually in that perfect in-between stage—no longer newborns, but not quite mobile toddlers yet. At this age, many babies are learning to sit up like this cutie was (she hadn't quite mastered sitting up yet, but was getting there). Their personalities are really shining at this age, with big smiles, curious looks, and lots of interaction with the camera. It’s usually one of the happiest, most expressive stages to photograph.
Turning six months old is a meaningful milestone, marking your baby’s halfway point to their first birthday. From chubby rolls and bright eyes to growing awareness and playful engagement, every step along the way is momentous. These sessions are typically simple and baby-focused, allowing the baby to be the star.
Nine Month Photos
Nine months old is especially meaningful—nine months in, nine months out! This sweet girl is the youngest of five, so I was especially happy to be able to include sibling photos in her 9 month session. When older siblings are included in photos, it adds an extra layer of connection and fun.
At 9 months old, many babies are crawling confidently, pulling themselves up to stand, and practicing their vocal skills to start forming words. This stage is all about movement and exploration, with babies eager to reach, grab, and interact with everything around them. Their personalities are usually very expressive by this point, with clear preferences, big reactions, and lots of social engagement.
