A Sweet “Newborn” Session at 2 Months Old { Preemie Photos
This handsome baby boy came into the studio for his newborn photos when he was 2 months old, but with his adjusted age, he was still very much a newborn. In fact, if I'm remembering correctly, this session was just a week before his original due date.
Because he was born a little early, his adjusted age was used rather than his actual birth age. Adjusted age is simply the age a baby would be if they had been born on their due date. For premature babies, this helps give a more accurate understanding of their development and what stage they are truly in. Even though he was already 2 months old, his tiny size, sleepy stretches, and newborn-like cues made it clear he was still in that early newborn window for posing.
I was able to capture those soft, timeless newborn portraits and sleepy curled-up poses. Sessions like this are always a gentle reminder that every baby’s timeline looks a little different, and there is no “too late” when it comes to documenting these early memories.
One of my favorite parts of this session was getting to see this family again. I previously had the honor of photographing his big brother for both his newborn and first birthday sessions, so it was extra special to continue documenting their story as their family grows.
Whether your baby is just days old or a few weeks past their due date (or more, in the case of preemie photos), newborn photography is still absolutely possible and just as meaningful.
